Kilchreest N.S.Geography
Curriculum overview
Our Geography Plan outlines the knowledge, skills and attitudes that the staff of Kilchreest N.S. hope to impart to the students.  The plan highlights the importance of (i)  exploration of the child’s immediate local environment and (ii)encouraging the child to become an active agent in his/her      learning. The time allocated for geography each week is as follows:
·        Infants 45 minutes
·        1st – 6th class is 1hour.
·        Time can be blocked and discretionary time may be used for trails or tours. The geography curriculum is divided into 3 strands and the table below outlines the strand units covered in each class.
Scheme of work from infants to second
Teachers in these classes will cover each strand and strand unit every year, choosing different topics to cover the strands and strand units.

Each strand is to be covered each year and due to the spiral nature of the curriculum overlapping will occur, however, we have made a selection of objectives, as outlined above, from each unit to be covered every second year to minimise repetition.

Due to our prime location at the foothills of Sliabh Aughty we have many natural resources that can be investigated and explored each year.  It is hoped to complete 2 trails each year taking in the surrounding area.
