Dear Parents & Guardians,

Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events.

School Athletics Team:  Congratulations to all the children who participated in the John Manning Inter-schools athletics competition in Loughrea recently.  Thanks to all the parents who brought the children. Thanks also to Ms. Kelly for giving her time on the evening and for participating in the teachers race.  Special thanks to Ms. Cusack for preparing the team and for being there on the evening.

School Website:  Our school website has been recently updated and is a great way of keeping in touch with what is going on in the school.  The website address is the same www.kilchreestns.com. Thanks to Ms. Cusack and her husband Terry for all the hours of hard work that went into it.

School Closures: School will be closed on Friday 29th April, Monday 2nd May and Tuesday 3rd May.

Proclamation Day: I would like to thank all the parents and guardians who attended the Flag raising ceremony on Tuesday 15th March.  Special thanks to former Principal, Gerry Daly, for his talk on the local involvement in 1916.  Finally, I would like to say well done to the children who performed so well on the day and to Ms. Smyth for preparing the music so beautifully.

School Policies: The following policies were ratified at the recent Board of Management meeting and are available to view on the school website or on request in the school office.

  • Policy on the Administration of Medicines
  • Health and Safety Policy
  • First Aid and Accidents
  • Homework Policy
  • Policy on Parent-Teacher Meetings

R.S.E. Talks:  The Relationship Sexuality Education talk is taking place this year for 5th and 6th class children and parents on Thursday May 19th at 7.00pm in the school hall.  The talk will be delivered by qualified professional Claire Kilroy.

School Matches:  There will be a number of hurling and camogie matches coming up in the next few weeks.  Our school policy is that we get buses for away matches.  We ask for €2 per child to help with the cost of the bus.  For matches that are played at home we ask parents that are available to help bring the children to the pitch.

Enrolments: We are now taking enrolments for September.  If you know of any parent who might be interested in sending their child to the school, please ask them to make contact with the school office.

Pledge Mass:  The boys and girls in 6th class took their Confirmation pledge at Mass in Castledaly on Saturday 23rd April.  Thanks to the parents who brought the children to practice on the Friday, to Fr. Roche for arranging the mass and the local choir for providing the music.

Public Library Visit:  We had our annual visit from the school’s library service recently and I would like to thank our school SNA Joby Madden for co-ordinating the exchange of the books this year.

Dental Visit:  The dental visit for children in 2nd and 6th class was rescheduled recently to Wednesday June 1st.

First Confession/First Communion:  I would like to congratulate our 2nd class children on making their First Penance .  Preparations are well under way for First Communion on Saturday 21st May.  Thanks to Ms. Cusack for preparing the children so well.

Should you have any further queries in relation to any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact me at the above number.

Yours sincerely,

Francis O’Connor

Principal.
