St. Thomas’ Senior Hurling Team Makes History

On Friday, November 10th, the victorious St. Thomas’ senior hurling team brought the cup to the school, celebrating their historic achievement of winning their sixth consecutive senior county title. This remarkable feat marks their eighth final win since 2012, solidifying their position as a dominant force in Galway hurling. On October 28th, the team overcame Turloughmore in an electrifying match at Pearse Stadium, securing a heart-stopping 2-12 to 1-13 victory. Their unwavering determination and exceptional talent shone through, etching their names into the annals of hurling history. The school community is brimming with pride for its past pupils who have brought such honor to the institution. Kenneth Burke, Cathal Daly, David Burke, Fintan Burke, Damien Finnerty, Glen Linnane, Daryl Burke, and Jason Niland took time out of their busy schedules to visit the school, inspiring the next generation of hurling stars. On Monday, we tuned in to the SFI Curious Minds live show, where we were captivated by captivating demonstrations and experiments that brought science to life. The show sparked our imaginations and instilled in us a newfound appreciation for the wonders of the scientific world. Midweek, we welcomed Scientific Sue to our classroom for a magical science show that had everyone spellbound. Her captivating performance transformed everyday objects into tools for scientific discovery, leaving us mesmerized and eager to delve deeper into the world of science. On Wednesday, our very own Ms. Hayes transformed into the Wizard for the day, leading us on a journey of scientific exploration. With the help of her trusty apprentices, she guided us through a series of hands-on experiments that challenged our minds and expanded our understanding of scientific concepts. And the week culminated with a truly extraordinary experience – a Zoom call with the Cell Explorers! From land to air and sea, we discovered the unique characteristics and innovations that define each mode, gaining a deeper appreciation for the intricate network that keeps our world moving. Next, we ventured into the realm of bridges, exploring the engineering marvels that span rivers, valleys, and oceans. We learned about the different types of bridges, their construction methods, and the principles of physics that govern their stability.
