Aistear January 2018 – Space

On returning to school after the Christmas holidays , the children were taken on a trip to outer space !!To prepare for this trip the children engaged in shared reading of “Grounded to Earth ” and learned all about the planets and the some of the objects that may be found in space. A Space station and space shuttle were set up in the corner and children had great fun launching missions to space, landing on the moon, collecting space samples and sometimes had to make an emergency landing!! IN play dough, some strange creatures emerged from the play dough and in Junk art the children created some space rockets using a variety of materials ! Aistear December 2017 – Santa’s Workshop

December certainly was an exciting month for the children as they set up Santa’s workshop and prepared for his arrival on December 25th !! The children took on the roles of Santa’s elves and were busy designing the toys , assembling them, checking the quality of them , wrapping them and finally dispatching them to Santa’s sleigh!!In small world the children made a mini Santa’s grotto and took visits to Santa. Aistear November ” At the GreenGrocers”

Our theme for November was “Food “. The children set up a Greengrocer store and Smoothie bar in the play corner and were busy buying their fruit and vegetables and taking a trip to the Smoothie bar after their busy days shopping!! IN Junk art children were busy with their creative designs and in play dough the children were making all different kinds of Healthy food. We read the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar and gave a recount of a trip to a smoothie bar. The children learned about the 5 food groups and the nutritious value of foods. Science Week 2017

As part of science week we were delighted to have the students and teachers from St Brigid’s vocational school Loughrea come to the school and set up a variety of science activities and experiments. Among the activities on the day were children got to look through a microscope at various cells , see what their heart looks like , and listen to it through a stethoscope, make magic paper and worked worked with magnets.
