Policy on Field Trips/School Matches

Of

Kilchreest National School.

Introductory Statement.

The following is a Policy Statement of Kilchreest N.S. formulated following discussion by the school staff in consultation with the Board of Management.

Rationale.

A School Policy on Field Trips/School Matches is necessary to provide clear procedures and practices to ensure safe transport of children to extra- curricular activities.

Relationship to Characteristic Spirit of the School.

Our school encourages the children to engage in leisure activities and outdoor pursuits and it is important that staff, teachers and pupils are aware of the guidelines associated with this policy.

Aims.

  1. To ensure that children are transported safely to extra- curricular activities.
  2. To ensure that the guidelines are adhered to.

Guidelines:

  • In order to aid/reinforce/expand on delivery of the Revised Curriculum, field trips may be undertaken by pupils of K.N.S.
  • Many Curricular areas benefit from the inclusion of field trips as methodology/approach eg. history, geography, science and PE
  • Some of these trips are carried out in the local environment and when walking K.N.S. ensures there is adequate supervision and rules of road are explained to children.
  • Buses are provided for trips to places where it is not possible to walk.
  • In conjunction with the Parents Association of  Kilchreest it was decided to get buses for all school field trips and matches.
  • Parents could be asked for a contribution to cover the cost of the buses.

Success Criteria.

The policy will be a success if:

  • Field trips are organised and children are safely brought to and from activities.
  • Children enjoy field trips.

It is the responsibility of the Principal Teacher to ensure that parents/guardians are notified of the terms of this school policy.
