16th June 2016

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We are approaching the end of another busy and successful school year.  The children have once again been a credit to you and are to be commended for their hard work and especially their behaviour.  We hope you all have a most enjoyable summer.

Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events.

Report Cards:  This year’s school report cards along with book lists and next year’s school calendar are going home today.  Please check your child’s bag for them.  If you want anything clarified in relation to the details enclosed please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Irish Water Safety Talk:  We had a visit from a member of Irish Water Safety Ireland last Monday 13th June.  The children learned some valuable life-saving lessons.  Please check our website for further details.

School Tour: The children had a most enjoyable day on their school tour to the Let’s Go Activity Centre in N.U.I.G.

Coole Park: The whole school will go on our annual trip to Coole Park for a picnic on Tuesday 21st June.  The bus will depart at 10.00am and will return at 2.00pm.  The Board of Management has agreed to pay for the transport.  Children will need a packed lunch and suncream will need to be applied in the morning before coming to school.

Trail to Woodville House:  The children from 3rd to 6th class will go on their final S.E.S.E trail of the year to Woodville House on Thursday June 23rd. A bus will bring the children there and back.  We would ask that each child bring €2 to help cover the cost of bus.  We are delighted to have Gerry Daly accompany us on our trail again this time.

New Infants:  We welcome our new infants and their parents to their first day of school on Friday 24th of June from 9.20am – 11.00am

Match v Lackagh N.S.:  Boys from 2nd – 4th will travel to Lackagh N.S. on Friday 24th June to play a challenge match.  Children will need to bring €2 to help with the cost of the bus.

Skip n Rope:  As per the last newsletter the Skip n Rope programme for all classes will take place on Monday 27th June.  A qualified skipping instructor will teach the children a variety of skipping skills on the day.  The Board of Management has agreed to supplement the cost and is asking that each child pay €2 to cover the balance.

School Book Rental:  A reminder that class teachers will be collecting rental books on Friday June 24th. Please ensure that any marks are removed from rental books so they can be used again this year.  Class teachers will be collecting the rental money for next year’s scheme on Friday 24th June.

                €5.00 from Infants – 2nd class

                                                €15 from 3rd – 6th.

Sports Day/Parents Council Fundraiser:  Our annual sports day will take place on Tuesday 28th June.  The Parents Council are organising their annual no-uniform day to coincide with Sports Day this year. Could each child bring €2 on that day to support our Parents Council.

Graduation Mass:  We will be saying goodbye to our 6th class boys and girls on Wednesday 29th June with a Graduation Mass.  This will commence at 1.00pm Parents and Guardians of 6th class children are invited to attend.

School Building Development:  Two projects will be carried out during the summer.  We will be replacing our existing septic tank to improve the school building with a more efficient system and electrical works will be carried out to replace our fuse box and the light fixtures in the classrooms.

Galway Captain:  We wish past pupil and current Galway Captain, David Burke, the best of luck  in the Leinster final on the 3rd July.  We hope when we come back in September he will be getting ready for an All-Ireland final.

Anti-Bullying/Child Protection: At our recent B.O.M. meeting the annual review of our anti-bullying and child protection policies were carried out.

Draft Policies:  There are 3 draft policies available on the school website:  School Tours, Internet Usage and Travelling to and from School Activities.  I would encourage you to read the documents and any suggestions would be welcome.

School Closure:  School will close on Thursday 30th June at 12.30pm for the summer holidays. Buses will run as normal on the day.   As per the calendar, school re-opens on Thursday 1st September.

Yours sincerely
