28th November 2016

Dear Parents /Guardians,

Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events.

Science Week: Thanks to all the teachers for organising activities in their classrooms this year.  We are also grateful to the Principal and Vice Principal of St Brigid’s Vocational School for allowing the Supermac’s Formula One Racing team to visit our school as part of Science Week. We were delighted to welcome this very talented group of students to the school.  We are particularly proud to hear about past pupils Adam Fahey and Eibhlin Lee’s achievements and were so impressed with Eibhlín and her presentation skills on the day.  Well done to everyone involved.

Parent-teacher Meetings: As usual there was a great response to the meetings this year.  If any parent was unable to attend and would like a meeting, please make contact with the teacher and a suitable time will be arranged.

Book Fair: The annual Book Fair was very successful again this year.  €900 was collected, 50% of which the school was able to spend on books to update our libraries.  Thanks to all the parents and children who supported the Book Fair and to Ms. Keely for organising it. A special word of thanks to our SNA, Joby, for all her hard work, particularly on the evening of the parent-teacher meetings.

Author Visit: Renowned children’s author, John Quinn, paid a visit to the school as part of our Book Fair.  The children really enjoyed listening to John’s stories and hearing him talk about writing.

Team Hope Shoe Box Appeal: There was a fantastic response to the Christmas Shoebox appeal this year. Thanks to everyone for contributing and helping this very worthy cause.  Thanks also to Ms. Hayes for organising the distribution of leaflets and to Ms. Kelly for their collection.

Congratulations to past pupil David Burke on his second all-star award.  This is a fantastic achievement and richly deserved.

Christmas Concerts: Due to constraints on time and curriculum overload, it has been decided that Christmas concerts will now take place every second year.  As we had concerts last year, there will be no concerts this year. The children will be learning Christmas carols and poems which will be performed on Thursday 22nd December at 11.00 am.  Parents are welcome to come.

Nutrition Talk:  Children from 3rd – 6th went to Super Valu on Monday 28th to receive a talk on diet and nutrition as part of the Super Troopers’ initiative currently ongoing in the school. Our thanks to McInerneys for sponsoring the talk and providing goody bags at the end of the day.

Parents Council:   The Parish Bazaar takes place on Sunday 11th of December.  Our Parents Council have organised a raffle and tickets will be distributed to all families.  On behalf of the school I would like to thank the Parents Council for organising this and ask you to support.

Connaught Rugby Team:  Members of the victorious Connaught Rugby team will visit the school this Wednesday 30th November at 12.00pm. Any children that have Connaught or Ireland rugby jerseys can wear them on the day.  Thanks to Eoin Brady for organising this.

Yours sincerely

Francis O’Connor

Principal.
