February 2017

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events.

Kilchreest N.S. Table Quiz:  This year’s quiz which we use as a school fundraiser was once again a great success.  We had in excess of 60 teams participating.  I would like to thank all the parents and staff for helping on the night. A special word of thanks to Ms. Kelly for organising the event.  The quiz raised approximately €1,200.00.

Credit Union Quiz Teams:  Well done to our school quiz teams who participated in the Credit Union quiz in Loughrea this year.  Thanks to Ms. Keely for preparing the children.

Clothes Collection:  We had a fantastic response to our recent clothes collection.  Thanks to all parents and guardians who contributed.

World Book Day is Thursday 2nd March.  Children can dress up as a character from their favourite book on that day.

Enrolments:  We are now taking enrolments for September 2017.  If you know of anyone who might be interested in enrolling their child in the school, please ask them to contact the office on 091 840112.

Congratulations to past pupil, David Burke, on being named captain of Galway Senior Hurling team for the second year. We hope that David will be bringing the Liam McCarthy Cup back to the school in September.

Parents Council Meeting:  There is an important Parents Council Meeting on TUESDAY 28th February at 8.00pm in the school.  There is an important decision to be made about Bus transport for school activities that affects parents and guardians. I would encourage all parents to attend.

Junior Entrepreneurial Programme: The children in 5th & 6th class have been working very hard on their Business – “KNS Health Foods”.   They have come up with a very good idea and have been busy in production and taking orders.  It has gone very well for them so far and we thank you for your continued support.

Write-a-book:  Congratulations to 6th class pupil, Josh Cunningham, for having his book chosen as the winning entry from the school in the annual write-a-book competition run by the Galway Education Centre.  Four other books were also highly commended – Conor Headd and Sophia Waseem Khan from 6th and Molly Kerins in 5th class.  Congratulations to all.

Congratulations to all past pupils who recently won the Connaught Senior Colleges Hurling title with St. Brigid’s Vocational School.

School Closures:

  • Friday 17th March- St. Patrick’s Day
  • Monday 20th March – Annual leave
  • Monday 10th – Friday 21st April – Easter Holidays.
