All Ireland champions visit the school.

Today we had a visit from St. Brigid’s camogie teams.   They had a very successful year winning the junior Connacht final, the senior Connacht final and the Senior A colleges All Ireland final. We were delighted to have so many past pupils involved with the two teams ; Fiona Burke, Siobhan Skehill, Ciara and Michelle Prendergast, Niamh and Aoife Brennan and Sarah Healy. We are very proud of all the girls involved and their management team of Ger, John and Sinead.   Kilchreest N.S. Galway fleadh cheoil 2016

Congratulations!! Well done to Melissa Clarke who won 1st prize in the U 12 button accordion competition at the county fleadh at the weekend.  Melissa is a fantastic musician and we are lucky to have her talents in the school. Also well done to Alex Kelly who came 3rd in the boys solo singing competition (12-15 year olds) and Meadhbh Mahony who came 3rd in the grupa ceoil.   Congratulations to all the children we are very proud of you!...

  26th April 2016 Dear Parents & Guardians, Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events. School Athletics Team:  Congratulations to all the children who participated in the John Manning Inter-schools athletics competition in Loughrea recently.  Thanks to all the parents who brought the children. Thanks also to Ms. Kelly for giving her time on the evening and for participating in the teachers race.  Special thanks to Ms. Cusack for preparing the team and for being there on the evening. School Website:  Our school website has been recently updated and is a great way of keeping in touch with what is going on in the school.  The website address is the same www.kilchreestns.com. Thanks to Ms. Cusack and her husband Terry for all the hours of hard work that went into it. School Closures: School will be closed on Friday 29th April, Monday 2nd May and Tuesday 3rd May. Proclamation Day: I would like to thank all the parents and guardians who attended the Flag raising ceremony on Tuesday 15th March.  Special thanks to former Principal, Gerry Daly, for his talk on the local involvement in 1916.  Finally, I would like to say well done to the children who performed so well on the day and to Ms. Smyth for preparing the music so beautifully. School Policies: The following policies were ratified at the recent Board of Management meeting and are available to view on the school website or on request in the school office. Talks:  The Relationship Sexuality Education talk is taking place this year for 5th and 6th class children and parents on Thursday May 19th at 7.00pm in the school hall.  The talk will be delivered by qualified professional Claire Kilroy. School Matches:  There will be a number of hurling and camogie matches coming up in the next few weeks.  Our school policy is that we get buses for away matches.  We ask for €2 per child to help with the cost of the bus.  For matches that are played at home we ask parents that are available to help bring the children...

February Newsletter 2016 Dear Parents & Guardians, Please find below a list of recent and upcoming events. Kilchreest N.S. Table Quiz: This event is going from strength to strength. We had 60 teams participating this year. I would like to thank all the parents, past pupils and staff for helping on the night. A special word of thanks to our Infant teacher, Ms. Kelly, for organising the event. The quiz raised €1,000 this year. Credit Union Quiz Teams: Well done to our 3 quiz teams who participated in the Credit Union quiz in Loughrea this year. Clothes Collection: We had a fantastic response to our recent clothes collection. Thanks to all parents and guardians who contributed. School closures: The school will be closed this Friday 26th February due to the General Election. Easter holidays: The school is closing for Easter on Wednesday 16th March. Children go home at 12.30pm. Buses will run as normal. The school will re-open on Monday 4th April. 1916 Rising Commemoration/Flag Raising: As part of the celebrations to commemorate the 1916 Rising, Tuesday 15th March has been designated Flag Raising Day in primary schools. The school plans to organise activities on the day around the theme of the “Children of the Rising”. Parents are welcome to attend the ceremony on the day. I will communicate closer to the event with the schedule for the day. Best wishes: The whole school community would like to wish Ms. Hayes and her Killimor team-mates the best of luck in the upcoming All-Ireland club camogie final v Millford on Sunday 6th March in Croke Park. Congratulations to past pupil, David Burke, on recently being named captain of the Galway Senior Hurling team. It is a great honour for David and his family. We hope that David will be bringing the Liam McCarthy Cup back to the school in September. Congratulations also to all the past pupils who have won Junior and Senior Connaught colleges camogie titles with St. Brigid’s Vocational School recently.
